Garden Tour

The tour of the garden follows the general direction outlined below, beginning with the Long Walk and ending with The Front Lawn. Accordingly the information and images follow this sequence. We hope that you enjoy the tour and we very much look forward to welcoming you to the garden in the future.

After leaving reception the vast majority of our visitors tend to enter The Long Walk passing in a generally westerly direction through The South African Garden, Cottage Garden, Quarry Garden and Birch Wood, arriving at standing stones of The Magic Circle. You then ziz-zag your way downwards through The Acer Glade and head  roughly east along the lower parts of the Long Walk passing underneath the towering Lime Trees (or in a parallel route, up The Rhododendron Walk – why not try both!) turning left to cross the Wisteria Bridge. This will bring you into The Bulb Meadow which overlooks the Devon Lane and Dovecote and finally back out on the lower drive where you once again turn left towards the bottom entrance to The Walled Garden.

Here you follow the paths around the bottom terrace in the general direction of the arch way at the far end of the long straight band of grass, and around to the right which leads to The Tennis Court Lawn. This exits into The Ovals Garden (currently being replanted) which links to the Bowling Green Terrace above. At the far end of this Tom Steps take you onto the uppermost Annexe Terrace which leads via some steps to the front lawns.
