Approximately 50 trees have been planted with another 90 are due to be planted in the autumn as well as a few more next spring. The trees have been carefully selected for their spring and autumn colour, and many are rare. The 40 m lake is already attracting wildlife, and its tumbling water adds a further dimension to this beautiful Arboretum, which has been designed by Matt Bishop.

Carol was welcomed by Chris Brickell, the distinguished botanist, author and former Director-General of the RHS and thanked by Sir Robin Nicholson FRS, Chairman of the Fortescue Garden Trust. The selected tree is a Betula utilis ‘Buckland’, chosen for its beautiful glowing creamy-orange stem in winter.

Work on the Arboretum will continue over the winter, and it is hoped the Arboretum will open to the public shortly afterwards.
