After leaving reception most visitors go left to enter the Long Walk going in a generally westerly direction through the new Summer Garden, Cottage Garden, Quarry Garden, Birch Wood & arrive at the granite standing stones of the Magic Circle. Then ziz-zag downwards through the Acer Glade and head east along the lower parts of the Long Walk passing underneath the towering lime trees (or in a parallel route, the Rhododendron Walk – why not try both!). Turn left across the Wisteria Bridge. This leads to the Bulb Meadow overlooking the Devon Lane and Dovecote and then out onto the lower drive. Again turn left, towards the bottom entrance to the Walled Garden.
Follow the path along the bottom terrace towards the arch way at the far end. Beyond is the Jubilee Arboretum. There is now a choice either go around to the right which leads to the Tennis Court Terrace. This exits into the Ovals Garden which links to the Bowling Green Terrace above. At the far end of this Tom’s Steps take you onto the uppermost Camellia Walk which leads via some steps to the front lawns, or enter the Arboretum, follow the path upwards & re-enter the the Walled Garden at the top level.
