Bring a little Garden House magic to your garden

The plant centre is well-stocked with plants that are sourced from specialist, local suppliers. It's the perfect place to buy unusual plants that you won't find in mainstream garden centres. We also stock a small range of carefully chosen plants, propagated from plants that grow in the garden.

If you need advice, our knowledgeable, well qualified staff are on hand to help. They love a horticultural challenge, so if you have tricky planting sites or challenging conditions they will be happy to find plants that will work for you.

Fantastic place...Apart from the lovely gardens and the friendly staff it is possible to buy excellent quality plants, some of which you won’t find elsewhere.

Plant  Centre at The Garden House

Open every day from 3rd March to 28th October 2018, free admission

10.30am - 5pm.

We specialise in locally grown plants that are unusual; our stock mirrors the planting in the garden, so we often have 'rushes' on plants when they are in season; look out for hydrangeas in September and Podophyllum  'Spotty Dotty' in early summer.

The garden was created after the Second World War by Lionel and Katharine Fortescue. Lionel was well known for being ruthless with plants - they had to be perfect or they had to be removed. He also bred plants and there are many varieties widely cultivated today that have their origins at The Garden House. Look for 'Fortescue' and 'Buckland' in plant names as those were often used by him.

We're proud of the links to such a plantsman and the team take great care to offer the best plants and keep them in excellent condition.

Accessibility is on the whole good. Wheelchair users will be able to experience the majority of the garden on wide paths. Unfortunately we don’t have a mobility scooter to hire. For an independent review of our access please read “The Bimblers” blog.

We love dogs but the garden isn't ideal for them. Only assistance dogs are allowed in the garden. We are happy to provide water and there is some shade in our car park. There are plenty of good dog walks nearby, including some great river and pub walks, so please make a day of it with your best friend and don't let a dog-free visit prevent you from discovering the garden for a couple of hours!

We welcome groups by prior arrangement and recommend allowing about 2 hours to explore plus additional time if teas or light lunches are required. Admission for the group leader is free and coach drivers get a meal voucher. Contact the office on 01822 854769 for details or fill in the enquiry form.

Gift Aid

Please be a Gift Aid visitor. As a registered charity we are able to claim an extra 25% from the Government on your total payment. This helps us to fund project work in the garden – currently we're planning to open the barn for events so we need to install a new floor.

RHS members

The Garden House is an RHS Partner Garden. We welcome RHS members, and they enjoy free entry to the garden every Friday, March to October inclusive, except Good Friday. Free entry is for Member 1 only. Free entry is not valid for RHS members on group visits or for any events taking place that have an additional admission/ticket fee.

The most beautiful garden I have ever visited, you can lose yourself for hours meandering around the winding pathways.
