Seasons of interest
The garden looks super all year and has many plants of horticultural interest, including cultivars that were bred on site. In the winter interest is focused on snowdrops and early bulbs. highlights include the numerous snowdrop varieties, including many rare and unusual plants. Detailed species information can be provided on request. Late spring and summer bring the highlights of the abundant flowers in the cottage and summer gardens. The garden contains a two acre walled garden which houses terraces that create garden rooms. The Walled Garden is of horticultural interest for its long borders that are colourful until October, and it's 'Ovals' a feat of gardening architecture that features in international garden design publications. In autumn the Acer Glade provides picturesque views of mature acer trees, with foliage colours from bright yellows through to deep burgundy. It is an area of the garden often used by media to show the 'colours of autumn'.
Owned and managed by the Fortescue Garden Trust, The Garden House in Buckland Monachorum, is an idyllic, 10 acre English country garden gem set in a tranquil Devon valley. Several gardens in one, it features more than 6,000 different plant varieties and is not only a must for horticultural
enthusiasts, but anyone with a passion for beautiful plants.
Visitors enjoy free entry to the tea rooms, shop and well stocked plant sales area, offering a range of plants that mirrors those
on display on the garden, while the tearoom has a range of hot meals, cream teas, cakes and other
refreshments. Throughout the year there are events, courses and craft workshops. Children enjoy the exciting spaces and the garden trails.
