In May 2026, The government announced temporary VAT relief, with a scheme called Great British Summer Savings.

The VAT rate on eligible activities will be cut from 20% to 5%, from 25th June to 1st September inclusive and applies across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The scheme is designed to help families enjoy days out for less this summer amid increasing cost pressures.

FAQ’s

• Can the discount be passed back to The Garden House, as a donation?   Yes, you can donate your saving (or any other amount of your choosing). You can do this at the gate with a member of staff or through our website.
• Why are only certain admission tickets reduced in price?  The Government’s VAT reduction only applies to certain goods and services. At the Garden House, it includes admission for family tickets (adults and children who visit together).
• Does the discount affect membership? No. Membership prices are not affected.

We welcome groups of 10 people or more, by prior arrangement. It is recommended to allow a minimum of 2 hours to explore the garden, plus additional time to visit our café and plant sales area.

The Fortescue Room (part of our café) can be booked separately for large groups or for private bookings.  Seats 30.

Combining a group visit to The Garden House and Wildside

The two outstanding gardens at Buckland Monachorum are less than one mile apart. With minimum additional travel, a visit to both on the same day offers an exceptional experience for garden tour groups.
To ensure availability and access (coach parking) on a combined visit please contact each garden separately. Catering available at The Garden House.

The garden, café, Fortescue Room and terrace can be booked for private use, outside of our published opening times.  We are experienced in hosting wedding breakfasts, birthday lunches, wakes, corporate events. Contact our Operations Manager for more information.

We can provide catering, or our facilities can be made available for private caterers.  The Garden House is a licenced venue.  To discuss your requirements please contact the office.

The Garden House is delighted to be an RHS Partner Garden.  As such we welcome RHS Members with a valid membership card.

From Plymouth: Follow A386 towards Tavistock; the garden is signposted left off this road just after the golf course, before reaching Yelverton. Follow the road through Crapstone; the garden can be found on the right before reaching Buckland Monachorum.

From Yelverton: Follow A386 from Yelverton towards Plymouth. Look out for the brown tourist sign soon after the roundabout, turn right. Follow the road through Crapstone; the garden can be found on the right before reaching Buckland Monachorum.

Disabled parking bays are available in the car park with easy access to the garden.  On arrival please drive into the car park and disabled parking bays can be found in the middle car park just to the left above the entrance hut.  

Mobility scooter (Tramper) hire

An all terrain mobility scooter (Tramper) is now available for guests through a partnership with Countryside Mobility, a charity service working with 60+ outdoor attractions across the South West and beyond.

If you’re not already a member you’ll be signed up when you come to hire the Tramper. Bring personal ID with you and allow around 15 minutes on arrival. at which time you’ll choose one of the 3 membership options and be given introductory training: 

The 2 week and annual memberships allow access to Tramper hire across the full network of 60+ hire locations.

Membership to the scheme will be completed at The Garden House as part of your training, which will take up to 15 minutes.

Mobility scooter booking is available for 10.30 am or 1.30 pm sessions daily when we are open to the public. 

Hire Fee –There is a hire fee of £5.00 for each  hire period which helps to cover our costs of providing this service

Wheelchair users will be able to experience the majority of the garden on wide paths. Paths suitable for wheelchairs are clearly signposted.

FAQ’s

Are dogs allowed at The Garden House?

Dogs are allowed on all large pathed areas

(unless marked with a paw print crossed through).

Dogs are not allowed on grass paths, or lawns

Do you charge for dogs?

There is no extra costs for visiting with your dog.

Can I let my dog off the lead?

No we ask you to keep your dog on a short fixed lead throughout your visit.

Can I bring another pet?

We do not allow any other pets at The Garden House

Do you provide water for my dog?

Water for dogs will be provided on the terrace and in the porch

Dogs can enjoy the paths at The Garden House, but are not allowed on the grass or in the flower beds. We are happy for dogs to come into the café or on the terrace, and in the book shop.

There are 2 dedicated dog waste bins onsite (if you cannot find these please ask a member of staff or take it home with you for disposal).

Remember that not everyone is confident around dogs. Some people may be nervous or fear them. If you are visiting with your dog, please make sure they do not run up to people (especially children) or other dogs.

Rules for Dogs visiting The Garden House

• Dogs must be always kept on a short lead

• Dogs must not be tied up and must always be with owners / handlers.

• Handlers must be mindful that some people are nervous around dogs so please always be in control.

• Handlers should ensure all dog mess is promptly and properly disposed of in the bins provided. Poo bags are provided at the gate.

• Aggressive dogs are NOT permitted into The Garden House. We reserve the right to refuse entry to, or remove any dog thought to be dangerous to visitors, staff or other dogs.

• Dogs are not permitted to certain events at The Garden House (this will be advised on booking).

• Because we have narrow paths, we would prefer only one dog per handler but will allow a maximum of 2.

• Dog strollers are permitted at The Garden House but are permitted only in areas where dogs are permitted.

Exceptions to these rules are service animals –

In areas where dogs are normally not allowed these restrictions do not apply to assistance animals.

• The dog must usually be Clearly identifiable (e.g. wearing a harness or jacket).
