Rhododendrons

The Fortescues, Lionel and Nancy, loved and bred Rhododendrons.  Their legacy is an integral part of the bones of the garden, thriving in the acid, loamy soils of The Garden House.  The season is long, starting in winter, peaking in April and May, and lingering till July with occasional flower in autumn.  Some have decorative leaves, with silvery surfaces or brown indumentum on the undersides of the foliage.  All are beautiful and add enormously to the character of the garden.
